La profusión de estas crea momentos que basculan entre la psicodelia de thriller italiano de los 70 o el burbujeo orgánico de un experimento noventero de Money Mark. Las influencias del no wave que aporta Pablo Martín amplían el marco sonoro. Puntualmente, Mumford suelta su cháchara funk en la distancia remarcando lo vital de su sonido aunque sin llegar a despegar del trabajo la etiqueta de instrumental.
Y si bien el funk es omnipresente, en «Pressure», tal como nos confirma el propio Jay Mumford en la entrevista que aparece en el próximo número de Enlace Funk, se nota la influencia del jazz. Hay instantes en los que podrías estar escuchando uno de esos viejos discos de Blue Note de Lonnie Smith o de Reuben Wilson, hasta que algún giro te vuelve a traer al presente a recordarte que The Du-Rites, mantienen el funk vivo haciéndolo actual. The Du-Rites never stop. Since 2016, they have released five LPs and some juicy vinyl and digital singles. Now they bring «Pressure», a new EP on 10 inch vinyl. Jay Mumford sets the flawless funk beat on drums. Pablo Martín joins in with the four and six strings. They both play keys (Rhodes, Hammond, Mellotron or Ace Tone). The resulting sound is reminiscent of 70’s psychedelic Italian soundtracks or maybe those organ experiments on old Money Mark records. The no wave influences contributed by Pablo Martín broaden the sound frame. Sometimes, Mumford drops some funk chatter in the distance. It brings life to the recordings but without losing the instrumental labelling. The funk is ubiquitous but the jazz influence is noticeable too. There are moments when you could be listening to one of those old Lonnie Smith or Reuben Wilson records on Blue Note. But suddenly, something brings you back to the present to remind you that The Du-Rites keep the funk alive by making it current.
